Grace Phyllis Abrams 19322020

Grace Phyllis Abrams
1932-2020
Passed away peacefully
in Fredericton on August 4, 2020. Born in 1932 in Wallaceburg,
Ontario, to Jane and Oliver Abrams, she graduated high
school as valedictorian, and was a graduate of Queens University, in
English Literature and Latin. She later earned a Masters Degree in
Education at UNB.
As a much loved and
respected teacher in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick for over 40
years, she was one of the first to use media and creative
writing in the teaching of English in junior high schools. She later
became a consultant, editing curriculum for the NB Dept of Education.
Her intelligence, openness and curiosity led her to become a world
traveller. She had a great love of poetry, film and music, especially
classic films, and was always happy to share her
passions with her many friends and family.
Predeceased by her
husbands, Robert Sparks and Bryan Roberts, she will be greatly missed
by her children, Juliana Sparks, Toronto, and Laurence Sparks,
Fredericton.
She is survived by her
sister and brother-in-law Muriel and Larry Nelson, and sister-in-law
Annetta Abrams, stepchildren Mark and Anita Roberts and many nieces
and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers Alan and Laurence,
her sister Eileen,
and her niece Janet.
A special thank you to
all the staff at Paradise Villa, where she lived her last years. In
lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada
or WWF would be appreciated.
Remember me when I am
gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half
turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day
by day
You tell me of our future that you plann’d:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to
counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a
while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of
the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should
forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be
sad.
