NICKERSON, George Walter – It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our cherished father on May 13, 2020 at The Meadows, Yarmouth, N.S. George was born in Clark’s Harbour, N.S. on May 6, 1926 to Walter C. and Matilda (Phillips) Nickerson. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Gwendolyn (Moran) and their youngest child Wendy. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family of seven sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his children Bradford (Nancy), Waterborough, N.B.; Clive (Jane), Brighton, Ont.; Laurel (Andrew) Jamieson, Kentville, N.S.; Garth (Dianne), Fredericton, N.B.; Janice (David) Sarginson, Yarmouth, N.S.; Duane (Susy), Stoney Creek, Ont.; Sheila (Leslie) Wiltzen, Fort Smith, N.W.T.; Kerry (Brenard) Faye, Kentville, N.S.; 26 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. George was commissioned pilot officer in 1944 as a wireless air gunner in the RCAF, and spent his career with Air Canada based in Fredericton. He was a passionate gardener, had his own apple orchard in Clyde River and deeply loved his family. George’s faith in God was evident in his life, often sharing with his children and grandchildren the importance of a relationship with Christ. He supported and volunteered at the local Baptist church in all the communities he lived in. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a small family service will take place at Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth, N.S. with Pastor Keith Moore officiating on May 17, 2020. A webcast of the service will be available at www.huskilson.net, where you can also leave messages of condolence for the family. Burial will follow in the St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Clyde River. Donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.

  1. Thinking of all George’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and friends. He is gone but not forgotten. He will always be remembered as a kind, funny, patient, family man of strong faith who, with his lovely calm sweet wife Gwen, welcomed me and my siblings into their home on Keswick Ridge to play with the Nickerson kids. Condolences to you all.

  2. Garth you had your father a long time but it is never long enough.
    My sincere condolences.
