George’s Obituary
Following a lengthy and difficult battle with cancer, George Grant, beloved Husband of Kim Grant of Norquay, SK, passed away surrounded by his family at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on March 3, 2020, at the age of 64 years.
George was born on September 27, 1955 to Alexander and Eldeen (Apperley) Grant in Norquay, SK, where he was raised on the family farm. He started school at the Grand Ravine rural school then continued at Norquay School. After graduating in 1973, he worked for Nelson Homes in Lloydminster, SK. He then returned home to help on the family farm and spent his next few winters working in Calgary, AB, drywalling with the Tress brothers.
In 1984, he married Kim Polowich and they began living in Hyas, SK. In 1988, their first child, Sarah, was born. They moved to Norquay in 1992 and shortly after their second child, Devin, was born.
After the passing of his mother in 1996, George and Kim took over ownership of the family farm where they eventually moved in 1999. George continued to operate the family farm until 2017 when his health started to decline, and help was provided to keep the farm in operation.
George proudly served in several executive positions on many organizations and boards in the community of Norquay. This began in the 70’s with the UGG, the Wildlife Federation, Norquay Curling Club, United Church, Norquay Legion and he was particularly proud of his time with the Norquay Volunteer Fire Department as well as his 23 years on the board of the Norquay Co-Op.
George enjoyed many activities and hobbies over the years including: Hunting, Fishing, Camping, Snowmobiling, Woodworking, Mechanics, Carpentry, Farming, and of course spending time with his family.
George fought very hard with the many challenges he faced especially in the later part of his life. He will be greatly missed and the strength he gained and the wisdom he shared will forever live on through his loved ones.
George was predeceased by parents, Alexander and Eldeen Grant; sister, Nancy; brother, Bill; and parents-in-law, John and Gloria Polowich.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Kim; daughter, Sarah (Ryan) Friday; son, Devin; grandchildren: Briley and Tayven Friday; sisters, Sharon (Gordon) Mutch and Janet (Sam) McElhinney; brother, James (Heather); and sister-in-law, Pam (Kelly) Devloo and Marian Shrader (common law partner of late Bill Grant); as well as numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.
