George Donald LeFrank
July 01, 1939 – July 08, 2020
LEFRANK, George Donald
Age 81, of Malagash Point, NS. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George, on Wednesday July 8th, 2020. Born July 1st, 1939 to Jean (Power) and George Le Frank, of East Ship Harbour. George was known for his outgoing personality, his captive story-telling abilities, and his great sense of community.
George started working at CN delivery as a young man and joined the Dartmouth Fire Department in 1970 and was a proud serving member for 26 years until his retirement in 1996. He served as past president of IAFF Local 268 and was proud of his accomplishments for his members. In 1971, he attended Dartmouth Vocational School and started his own appliance repair business, Dartmouth Appliance Repair, which his son continues to run today.
George was an enthusiastic member of the community; raising money for muscular dystrophy, participating as a clown in local parades, and mascot for the Dartmouth Arrows Hockey Team. He was a devoted Roman Catholic and member of the Immaculate Conception Parish at Saint Michaels in Brule, and long-time parishioner of Saint Peters Catholic Church in Dartmouth. He served in the church since childhood starting out as an altar boy at Saint Dennis’s Parish, East Ship Harbour. He was a regular contributor to the “Voice of the People” in the Chronicle Herald, because ‘opinion brought change’.
He loved a good laugh, was a ‘champion of a cause’, and a good friend to many. George and his beloved wife, Velda, retired in 1996 to their ‘piece of paradise’ on Malagash Point, where they spent many good times entertaining their family and friends. In the last few years he continued his enduring love and devotion to Velda, ensuring he was a regular at Willow Lodge with his daily visits and involvement in her care; while continuing to brighten the days of the other residents.
George is survived by the love of his life of 57 years, Velda, and by his adoring children, daughters Colette (Stephen) Cleary, Cara Munroe, and his son Pierre. He leaves behind his grandchildren Samantha, Nicole, Jaqueline, Cody, Gregory, Danielle, Christina, and Jackson, and his great-grandchildren Barrett, Isla, Alexis, Hudson, and Nolan, as well as his son-in-law Stephen Palmer. He is survived by his brothers Roger and Frank (Gordie) Le Frank, numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
George was predeceased by his eldest daughter Cynthia Palmer, his son-in-law Lloyd Munroe, and by his brothers John and Paul Le Frank.
Funeral arrangements have yet to be made and will be announced at a later date.
“Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done, On Earth As It Is In Heaven”.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of George Donald LeFrank July 01 1939 July 08 2020..
