It is with great sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Gary William Covey on Monday, February 24, 2020, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born March 28, 1948, in Sydney, he was the son of the late Leroy and Anne (Samways) Covey.
For over 30 years, Gary worked for Devco, however, one of his true passion was cars. In his younger years, Big Gary could be found in the pits at Bud’s Speedway or working across the road in the garage and in his spare time, could usually be found at one of his regular bingo games. His other passion was poppy’s pets (his grandkids) always brought a smile to his face.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Jean (Gorman); sons, Gary (Tammy), Edmonton, Jason (Tracey), Sydney and Leroy (Arin), Sydney; sisters, Sissy (Dink) Dakai, Sydney and Shirley (Jimmy) MacNeil, Sydney; brothers, Leroy, ON, Norman (Judy), Sydney, Melvin (Jessie), Sydney and Kenny, ON; grandchildren, Mitchell (Neeca), Christian (Ashley), Allison (Nick), Cassandra (Zachary), Cecilia, MacKenzie, Addison, Ryan and Bryant; great-grandchildren, Bailey Mae, Bentley and Daxton; and his dearest friend, Richard Aboud.
Besides his parents, Gary was predeceased by his brother, Bob.
Funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Canon Brenda Drake officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Cape Breton Branch of the VON.
