Gail (Mom) Ohlhauser
Gail Margaret Ohlhauser passed away peacefully in the caring hands of Ponoka Geriatrics on Monday, October 19th, 2020 at the age of 79. Born March 27th, 1941 in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, Gail moved to Calgary with her family when she was young. It was there that she met and married Jim Ohlhauser on September 22, 1967. They then moved to Red Deer in 1972 where they raised their children Karen, Robert, Michael and Jason. Gail was a home maker and also worked a variety of jobs, at Barney’s (now KFC), IGA, Eaton’s, and The Bay. Gail loved life and people. She was known as “Mom” to most that knew and loved her. She will always be remembered working at Houlihans, and The Wild Flower Bistro as the “Hostess with the Mostess”. She also earned the name of “The Fine Tuner” while working for her daughter Karen and son-in-law Ron Benson at Advantage Homes until her retirement. She leaves behind her daughter Karen, (Ron) Benson, sons, Rob, Mike (Darlene), and Jason Ohlhauser. She also leaves eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren who fondly knew her as “Granny”. Gail loved spending time with her family and loved hosting Sunday & Christmas dinners, fondues etc. . Gail was predeceased by her husband James Roy Ohlhauser, her parents Norman and Ethel Riches, and sister Marilyn. She loved, all different types of music, dancing, chuckwagon races, golfing, playing pool and card games.
Pets were also very important to Gail; she loved and cherished the many wonderful friendships she made during walks with her dogs Teddy and Grizzly at 3 Mile Bend. Gail will be deeply missed by her family and friends. As per Gail’s wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations can be made to Central Alberta Humane Society at www.cahumane.com.
