Obituary of Fred Fries
Fred passed away peacefully at Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound, on March 26, 2020. Born in Nieder-Wöllstadt, Germany, on May 24, 1931, Friederich Wilhelm Fries of Owen Sound, was in his 89th year.
Beloved husband of Edith (née Burnette) Fries for 64 years. Loving father of Susan Romanowich (Larry) of Georgian Bluffs, Ontario, Joanne Partington (Howard) of Blackstock, Ontario, Carol Fries (Rick Cleath) of Duluth, Minnesota, and Cathy Fries of Huntingdon, Quebec. Cherished Grandpa of Katrina, Victor, Yuri, Mikyle, Alexander, Sasha and Ivan Romanowich, Caroline, Katherine and Benjamin Partington, and Meagan and James Hanna. Also survived by his sister Gerlinda “Gerdi” Gartner of Germany.
Predeceased by his parents August and Auguste (née Behac) Fries, and by his siblings Ernst Fries, Franz Fries, Marianna Philippi, and Grimhilda “Musch” Jahn, of Germany.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 554 15th St. E., Owen Sound, on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Owen Sound. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492.
Special thank you to all the hospital staff for all their care and compassion given to Fred and his family, even in these trying times. Most importantly, to Father Francis of St. Mary’s Church, who ministered the last rites to Fred.
