Frances’ Obituary
ROSS, Frances Alicia – Age 97, formerly of Clark’s Harbour, passed on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Roseway Manor. Born at home in Clark’s Harbour on July 5, 1923, Frances was the youngest of seven siblings to the late Arthur James and Flora (Wilson) MacKinnon. She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Reginald Ross, and by her brothers, Robert, Milton, Gayton, Keith, Donald, and sister Catherine. Frances is survived by her daughter; Myrna (Paul), Newellton; son Ranald (Christina) Calgary; granddaughter Karla (Dan) Clyde River; grandson Robbie (Patty) Newellton; great grandchildren, Ryan (Anjelika), Quincy, Danielle (Tyler), Sarah; and great great grandson, Jay.
Frances had a full and graceful life devoted to her faith, family, friends, career and volunteer efforts for her community. She graduated from Provincial Normal College in Truro in 1942 and went on to share her love of learning across a teaching career that spanned 35 years and also included Adult Sunday School and Bible Study teachings right up to her debilitating stroke in her late 80’s. Frances volunteered in a number of organizations including Home & School, was a life-time honorary member of the Women’s Missionary Society, United Baptist Stone Church (Deaconess, Choir Director for 40 years, Teacher, Stained Glass Restoration Committee), President of Atlantic Bible Society, Sea Breeze Rebekah Lodge #24 member for 50 years, Clark’s Harbour Town Council, Clark’s Harbour Seniors Club, volunteer canvasser for the Cancer Society and numerous other community-based fundraisers.
Her zest for life shone through and was accompanied by generosity, manners, humor, patience, style and kindness to all. From family gatherings to hosting Bible Study, from enjoying a good practical joke to baking for the neighbourhood, from world travel to playing bridge, from line dancing to fun memories at the cottage in North East Point, and from sharing her lobster sandwiches to spending most Saturdays preparing her various lesson plans, she was a positive influence on all who met her. She was a treat to know and will be sorely missed.
Frances spent her latter years at Mary’s Abide-a-While and Roseway Manor. She was surrounded, loved and cared for by amazing staff and fellow residents. The family is very appreciative. Due to Covid-19 protocols, there will be no visitation. The funeral service at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 1, 2021 will be limited to immediate family only at Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Barrington with Pastors Neal Smith and Rob Hunt officiating.
