In our grief and loss, the family of Flavia Zanatta announces her passing after succumbing to illness.
Flavia Anna Stocco was born in Treviso, Italy in 1933 and grew up with 2 sisters and 3 brothers in a family steep in hard-working traditional Italian family values. She often told, with pride, of working at a very young age to help her family during rather improvised times. As difficult and simple as things were, there were also joyous and festive occasions as in when she met Aldo. As young adults, their promise to each other would last in courtship and in 49 years of marriage until Aldo’s untimely passing in 2007.
Leaving her entire family, Flavia courageously traveled by ship and then by train to Vancouver in 1957 to meet up with Aldo who had made the journey 2 years earlier to prepare for their life together. They wed soon thereafter and began their family in 1959 with the birth of Luigi, Roberto in 1960, and Valeria in 1967 (predeceased 2013). Flavia rejoined the workforce once her children were all in school and worked in food services for the next 20 years at a retirement home. She was very accomplished in preparing meals whether it be at work or at home. Building a home, enjoying the joyous celebration of family gatherings and wonderous meals, and taking pride in the accomplishments of her children meant everything to Flavia.
Flavia is survived by her 2 sons, her grandson Mateo, and her sister Edda and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and in Italy.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Children’s Hospital Foundation. The family would like to thank Dr. K. Da and the staff at Burnaby General Hospital who cared for Flavia. Prayers and funeral services are by invitation only.
Flavia Zanatta’s legacy is in how she touched those who knew her and inspired love, integrity, and respect.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Flavia Anna Zanatta September 25 1933 December 7 2020..
