Obituary
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Filomena Mele, our loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and beloved friend to many. Filomena fought a courageous battle with cancer until her very last day. She will be dearly missed but continues to live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.
Filomena was born in Cetraro, Province of Cosenza, Italy. After moving to Uruguay, she met Francesco Mele, the love of her life, and they had their first child, Isabel. Filomena, Francesco, and Isabel moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1959 and had their last child, Paul. Filomena always took care of her family and made sure there was always fresh food on the table. She loved to garden and would spend many, many hours ensuring every plant was given the best chance to grow. Filomena loved having friends and family over to chat away the day over a coffee and cookie.
The loving legacy she left behind is carried on by her children, Isabel and Paul; grandchildren, Jeremy, Brendon, Franki, Kaiden, and Preston; and three great grandchildren. Filomena was predeceased by her husband, Francesco in 1993.
A special thank you to Alberta Health Services, ParaMed refining care, and to all the wonderful and helpful nurses who spent countless hours in Filomena’s home ensuring that she was as comfortable as could be.
