Memorial Donation
After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness that the family of Evelyn Edith Sheaves (nee Bateman) announces her passing in the loving presence of family at the age of 82 years. She was born in West Point, a place where in her healthier days she loved to revisit in summer with her siblings. She is the daughter of the late Allen and Elizabeth (Hattie) Bateman (nee Farrell). Evelyn was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Nelson Howard Sheaves as well as her dearly loved brother Albert Bateman. She is also predeceased by her brothers-in-law Edward “Ted” Mercer, Edward Sheaves, Roland Sheaves, Gordon Butler, and William Frampton; sisters-in-law Mary Bateman, Florence Sheaves, Priscilla Sheaves, and Kay Sheaves.
She leaves to mourn with a lifetime of fond and loving memories her beloved children; Allan (Colette) Sheaves of Baie Verte, Rick (Theresa) Sheaves, Roland (Cindy) Sheaves both of Port aux Basques and Barbara Sheaves (Ken Hollett) of St. John’s. She was proud of and dearly loved each of her grandchildren and they adored her as well; Shane (Megan), Adam (Ansa), Nikita, Jenna, Noah, Stephen and Amy; great-grandchild Cody who made her day when he visited; her dedicated and caring sisters Jean (Albert) Walters and Hazel Frampton who were also her best friends; her brothers Junior (Sheila) Bateman and Melvin (Edwina) Bateman all of Port aux Basques; her sister-in-law and friend Ruth Butler of St. John’s and many nieces and nephews in the extended Sheaves and Bateman families in Ontario, Nova Scotia, Alberta and throughout Newfoundland.
Our mother loved all types of flowers therefore flowers are graciously accepted or a donation in her memory can be made to her local church of which she was a member for over 60 years- Wesley United Church Local Fund, Port aux Basques, NL, A0M 1C0.
Our mother will be resting at East Haven Funeral Home. Family is welcome to the visitation on Sunday, June 21st from 7-9pm, and both friends and family are welcome on Monday, June 22nd from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Due to current public health advisory of COVID-19 there will be a private family service on Tuesday, June 23rd,, 2pm from the Wesley United Church, Channel-Port aux Basques officiated by Joan Chaisson with interment to follow at United Church Cemetery, TCH. A mother’s love is always with her children and will be a never ending song in our hearts of goodness, comfort and unconditional love. Mom/Nan, we will miss you and we will never forget all that you taught us and did for us throughout our lives. Rest in heavenly peace.
