Obituary of Evangeline Mary Julien
God sent us an Earth Angel, Evangeline Mary Julien, on July 1st, 1930 … On Nov 13, 2020, at the age of 90, we said our final farewell as we held mom’s hand and she peacefully slipped from us to return to her heavenly home.
Evangeline was the daughter of the late Agnus and Daniel Julien. She will be forever in the hearts of her six children; Roger (Nancy), Adele, Merlin (Michaelan), Juanita (Ron), Priscilla (Gary), Delena (Darren), her grandchildren, Craig, Ryan, Vanessa, Brendon, Tonya, Jeff, Cody, Trevor and Katie and her nine great-grandchildren. Her sisters; Theresa, Geraldine (Luke) and Helen (Felix) and her many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Agnus and Daniel Julien; sisters Evelyn, Florence, Olive, Marion; brothers Anslem, Alfred, Kenneth and Thomas; son-in-law Paul and grandson baby Jacob.
Evangeline was a dedicated, strong, kind and loving woman who got her strength from God. She adored her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She dearly loved her siblings, her nieces and nephews and her friends. And it was very obvious they loved her.
She spent most of her life in the Acadian village of West Chezzetcook where she raised her six children and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Evangeline loved nature and being outdoors. She loved to cross-country ski, walk in the woods and swim. She would drive over to her brother’s camp, (Anslem) and go for a dip in the lake, even if no one was there. She was a woman of strong faith and a member of the St. Anslem’s Parish her whole life. For many years, at the yearly community picnic you would find Evangeline in the canteen serving up homemade fudge, ice-cream, fish‘n’chips and other baked goodies that community members donated. She would go to the weekly bingos and when crib started, her and sister, Theresa would head to the weekly crib games in the church hall. She loved to play crib. It wasn’t unusual for her grandsons to drop in to have a game of crib with her. She valued her time spent with her friends over the years. Time spent in the berry fields and making jams and other preserves. One of her key hobbies was knitting. A determined and independent woman, she knitted comfy, warm socks and mitts well into her 89th year without the need of a pattern.
She always had her pulse on what was happening with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to have fun and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Appreciation and Gratitude to the kind personal care workers from Northwood Homecare and to those special nurses who were exceptionally compassionate during her last days at the Dartmouth General Hospital. We send Love and Gratitude to all who were part of our mother’s journey through life.
A Native Prayer
“I give you this one thought to keep
I am with you still,
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on the snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone
I am with you still, in each new dawn.”
Services to be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
