Eugenie Bureau passed away on October 29, 2020. She passed peacefully in her sleep, two days before her 94th birthday. Born in La Cory, Alberta on October 31, 1926, Eugenie was a daughter in a family of 12 children.
Eugenie was a loving and caring person who enjoyed celebrations and holidays. She spoke often of her many nieces and nephews. She and her good friend, Helen, would travel to Bonnyville and St. Paul, Alberta to visit family.
Eugenie was always dressed as if she was going to a celebration. She was an avid bowler, spending many Tuesdays bowling with friends. She loved to play bingo and won countless prizes at the bingo hall. On a trip to Las Vegas, Eugenie found enjoyment playing the slot machines and continued to play in the airport until it was time to board the plane. She spent many years as a nanny to Suzanne Morin and became a beloved part of the Morin family. Eugenie spent many summers travelling to horse shows, visiting with new-found friends and crocheting. Eugenie was a fabulous cook and worked at the Misericordia Hospital as a cook for many years. No one made better cabbage rolls or chocolate pie. Her specialty was multi-coloured layered jello.
Eugenie was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and was devoted in her faith. She is survived by her life-long friend, Helen Haponiuk; Suzanne Morin (whom she treated as a granddaughter) and one sister, Marie Louise (Lucien). Eugenie was predeceased by her mother, Annie; father, Albert; and other siblings, Leon, Rene, Louis, Sister Catherine, Sister Albertine, Marie Rose, Sister Jeanette, Cecile, Therese and Bernadette. We will miss her deeply.
