Ethel C. (Devereux) Arsenault
1928-2020
Our beloved mother passed away peacefully on September 23 at age 92 with her rosary in her hands. She was born in St. Margaret’s, NB and was the daughter of Hugh Daley and Elizabeth (Flynn) Daley.
Mom was a loving, caring and religious parent. Saying the rosary every night after supper with her children was a ritual in the 1950s and 60s. She attended mass at St. Augustine’s or St. Bernard’s almost daily when she was physically able to do so. She raised her own six children and as her children “left the nest” she raised many more while operating a daycare in her home for more than 20 years. Many children, now adults have experienced “Nana’s” love and discipline over those many years. Mom was also an avid knitter who made hundreds of mitts, afghans, and other clothing for her children, grandchildren, and organizations such as Crossroads for Women and Christmas Daddies Auction. She was also a very active jogger, walker, and dancer. She would often start baking around 5 a.m. in the morning and always had three deep freezers full of baked goods.
Mom is survived by her children: Gene Devereux (Audette) and his daughters, Lori Hernandez (Victor), Lauren Devereux (Patrick Derby) and Lara Devereux Smith (Derek); Valerie Soucoup (late Ken) and her children, Melissa Keith and Travis Soucoup (Jacqueline); Judy Vautour (Allan) and her sons, Joey Vautour (Heather) and Jonathan Vautour (Shannon); Bob Devereux and his sons Ben Devereux and Mark Devereux; Barb Daisley (Ray Bourque) and her son, Brad Daisley (Amanda); and Brent Devereux deceased 2017 (Janice Aucoin) and his sons, Brennan Devereux, Austin Devereux, and Donovan Devereux. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Dylan Soucoup, Marley Soucoup, Zachary Keith and Olivia Keith.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Eugene Devereux (1975); her second husband, Al Arsenault (1987), and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sister, Edna Daley Landry and her brother, Everett Daley.
We would like to thank staff at Unit 5100 Moncton Hospital for their care and kindness over the past three months. Pursuant to her long-held request, she will be cremated, no viewing of her remains, and a funeral mass will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Due to Covid 19 restrictions on the size of gatherings, family only will be attending the funeral mass.
The family invites you to sign an online book of condolences at: www.funerairepassagefuneral.ca.
