Obituary
Mrs. Esther Newfield of Hinton, beloved Matriarch, passed away peacefully on November 8th, 2020, at the age of 85 years.
Esther was born in 1935, in North Burnaby, B.C., to parents Violet and Mel Beard. She was a cherished big sister to her brother Bob Beard and to her sister Sharon Corke from her mother’s second marriage. Esther grew up very active in her church; she loved being part of the youth group and the choir. With her beautiful voice, she was asked to sing at celebrations in her community.
Esther married Bert Newfield and she became a military wife. They had three children in four years. The family moved 5 times in 12 years due to military postings. After divorcing, Esther attended college at the age of 45 and loved being amongst her younger classmates. She spent many years caring for her mother and aunt before moving to Hinton.
Esther was an avid knitter and made her especially coveted “Granny Socks” for the family. She knitted hundreds of children’s sweaters and hats for charity to be sent overseas. She also crocheted, cross stitched, and made lovely historical scrapbooks. She loved volunteering for a school reading program through her seniors’ group.
She leaves behind her children Brian Newfield, Carolyn (Kerry) Lavoie, and Rob Newfield, grandchildren Christopher (Renee), Bob (Tara), Kara (Jen), Terra, and Sam, a great-grand child Logan, siblings Bob Beard and Sharon Corke, and various nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Violet Nafield and Mel Beard, and grand parents Alfred and Elizabeth Hillier, Ethel Beard and William Beard.
She cherished her friends and loved her family fiercely and will be sorely missed.
As per her request no service will be held.
