Hersey, Ernest, 87 of Deerfield and Tweed, Ontario passed away July 2,2020 at Valley Regional Hospital. Born January 10,1933 he was a son to the late Ernest and Hazel Hersey. He had an interest in Vintage cars and enjoyed being around friends who restored them, having had one himself. He loved TV & the classic Walton’s, All in The Family, Little House on the Prairie, and a good ole Western movie, or two. His remote was never far away. He was as long-haul truck driver and did so for more than 40 years with never an accident, for which he received a plaque to that effect, and was very proud. Retired a few times, egged on for his liking of the tractor travelling. It was notable at one time, he and 3 of his brothers drove for the same trucking company. His Ford F150 took over from there in his later years, often travelling between Ontario and Nova Scotia, unfortunately it came to a halt when Covid 19 appeared on the scene. More recently, his breakfast agenda was very important, out of the house 8:20 am on the dot, meeting at the local eatery with a few of the local “gents” for a good meal and lots of story telling by Ernie, with humor, that they found entertaining . He was never lost for words, and kept a lively conversation going at all times. He will be missed by all those who knew him. Am sure he touched many people’s hearts with his friendly, off the cuff chatter with many he met along the way while trucking. Some might say, he was the most unforgettable character they had ever met. He surely will be missed. Ernie left behind his wife, Elsie , Tweed, ON ;daughter, Heather Gibson ,Redbridge, ON; son, Wade, British Columbia; sisters, Gladys Amero, Weymouth; Ethel Mullen, Weymouth; Evelyn Mullen, Digby; brother, Walter, Oshawa, ON. Grandchildren, Hilary, Mack, Duncan, Gibson and a great grandson. He predeceased by first wife, Beverly, sisters Gail Mullen & Marjorie Melanson; brothers, Percy, Charlie and Donnie. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
