Elmer Arnold Tower
1930-2020
The family wish to announce
the peaceful passing of Elmer Tower at The Moncton Hospital, Sunday,
September 13, 2020 one month after celebrating his 90th birthday. Born
in Moncton, August 16th, 1930, near the height of the Great
Depression, he was the son of Harvey and Beulah (Ayles)
Tower.
Survived by his wife of 65
years, Phyllis (Trites), son Arnold (Linda), daughter Lynn MacKenzie
(Roddy), and grandchildren Troy Tower (Cyndia), Tracey Leaman (Brian),
Corey Tower (Julie), Trevor Tower (Chloe), Colin MacKenzie
(Charlotte), Kristin MacKenzie, and also by eight great grandchildren
and many cherished nieces and nephews. Elmer is also survived by his
older brother Garnet (Barb), brother-in-law Oram Trites (late Etta),
sisters-in-law Marie Trites (late Ora), and Yvonne Trites (late
Vince).
Predeceased by his parents,
brothers Alton (Kathleen), Elbin (Emily), Cecil (Alma), and Donald
(Theresa), and sisters Muriel (Ora), Erma (Clarence) and Betty (Burt).
Also predeceased by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ken and Alda
Trites, Hazen and Ellen Trites, and Myra and John
Steeves.
Elmer enjoyed a long career as
a truck driver, beginning with the Moncton Ice Company, and retiring
in 1990 after 25 plus years with CP (Smith) Transport. Elmer was an
avid hunter and fisherman alongside his loyal black Lab
“Paco”, and was a long time member of the Canadian Order of
Foresters, MCA Curling Club, and his cherished “Tuna Club”.
His retirement years were filled with many trips to various places
around the globe, winters in Florida, and hosting endless fun family
gatherings at the homestead at Magnetic
Hill.
Elmer will be remembered by
family and friends as a fun-loving, teasing, joking kind of guy, with
enough sayings and stories to write a book! His last two and a half
years were spent between home and hospital, and finally at his last
home, the Briarlea on Ryan where he lived from Aug 1, 2019 until Aug
1, 2020. Through all his health and medical issues, he remained true
to form with his personality, jokes, and one-liners, with never a
complaint. He brought much laughter and pleasure to his many wonderful
caregivers at Briarlea and The Moncton Hospital, and the family would
like to thank them all for their caring and compassion with Elmer.
Also, a great big thank you for the years of professional care,
friendship and humour of Dr. Brian
Davidson.
And we can’t say
goodbye without this quote from a dear friend of Elmer’s
which really summarizes his past 2 years . . . “Spending an hour
with that man is an hour of sheer joy!” We love you Elmer, Dad,
Grampy, Papa!
Funeral arrangements are under
the direction of Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton
(858-1995). Dates and times are undecided at this time and will be
announced at a later date. Donations in Elmer’s name may be
made to The Friends of the Moncton Hospital or Hillside Baptist Church
