Ellsworth “Sam” Embree
1927-2020
EMBREE, Ellsworth “Sam”
– Age 93, passed away on Friday, July 31,
2020, in St. Anne’s Centre, Arichat. Sam is survived by his
wife of 58 years, Shirley (Murray); daughter, Levina (Hughie); son,
Bruce, both of Port Hawkesbury; son, Arthur (Alice), Cole Harbour;
grandchildren, Evan, Alexandra, Jacob, Dylan, Vanessa, Isaac and
Rylan; sisters, Marion (Dave) Langley; Catherine (Angus) MacDonald. He
was predeceased by sisters, Mabel and Helen; brothers, Art and Robert
(Marg); grandson, Kyle.
Sam worked on the construction of the Canso Causeway and was
retired from Stora Enso. He was a member of the Port Hawkesbury
Volunteer Fire Dept for 50 plus years. Dad always enjoyed telling a
good joke and doing the lexicon puzzle. Dad was a large, kind and
gentle soul and we are better for having known and loved you and we
will miss you dearly!
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation as per
his wishes. A family graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. on
Thursday with Pastor Maggie Plant officiating. A lite lunch will be
served at St. Mark’s United Church immediately
following.
The family would like to thank the staff of Strait Richmond
Hospital and St. Anne’s Centre for their kind and
compassionate care.
Memorial donations in Sam’s memory may be made to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NS or to St. Mark’s
United Church. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at
