Elizabeth Griffiths
Elizabeth Griffiths, dearly loved wife of Ronald Griffiths of Martins
Point, passed on December 9, 2020. Despite living through two rounds
of breast cancer and pancreatic cancer, she enjoyed an active life
until a few weeks ago. A devoted wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother
and friend who derived great joy from her blended family. She will be
sadly missed by son Mark (wife Fran) of Lunenburg, daughter Alison
(husband Jim, grandson Julien) of Timberlea, son Ian (wife Eleanor,
granddaughter Kristen, grandson Mitchell) of Hammonds Plains, daughter
Heather (husband Joe, grandsons Robbie & Scott) of Calgary,
daughter Jillian (husband Kevin, grandsons Lucas & Spencer) of
Burlington, son Dylan (wife Julie, granddaughters Abby & Kennedy)
of Burlington. She is also survived by a number of loving nieces &
nephews (Jane, Johnny, Billie, Pam, Jimmy, Leah, Jay) who have fond
memories of their “young aunt”. She was pre-deceased by
her first husband, Captain Kent T. Smith, brother Mac, his wife
Lucille and sisters Audrey & Penny, and their husbands Big Jim
& Richard. A native of Quebec, she was a graduate of Bishops
University and penned a career in journalism in her early years. She
lived for a time in Western Canada with her first husband. Widowed at
an early age with 2 young children, she later married Ronald Griffiths
and they moved from Montreal to Martins Point in 1980 with assorted
children and beloved dogs, Winston & Whiskey. She assisted her
husband as he established Jaymar Diesel Ltd. and remained Secretary
Treasure of the company until her death. An active volunteer in school
& community, she set up the Meals on Wheels program for Mahone Bay
in 1990; was a member of the Board of the Bridgewater Foodbank; was a
charter member of Teazer Chapter IODE, where she was the Executive for
12 years. A faithful member of St. James Church, Mahone Bay, where she
served on various committees and was long-time treasurer of the ACW.
The service will be private with only family members present. In lieu
