Obituary
Surrounded by her loving family Eleanor passed away peacefully on December 28, 2019. Born in Saint John, NB on February 5th, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Evelyn (O’Leary) O’Neill. Eleanor was a loving wife, mother and Nana. She was an inspiration to her family with a strong devotion to her Catholic faith, family and community. Eleanor was a very humble volunteer serving with the CWL and Meals on Wheels for over 45 years. She enjoyed a good game of bridge with the same ladies for over 60 years.
Eleanor is survived by her loving husband Joseph Mallette of 61 years; son Joseph Mallette (Holly); daughters Elizabeth Boyle (Mike), Catherine Keating (Gary) and Mary-Jo Mallette all of Saint John. She adored her 10 beautiful grandchildren; Mallory (Shawn), Natalie (Tyler), Aaron (Vanessa), Melissa (Kyle), Kathleen (Brendan), Andrew (Sheila), Michael (Alanna), Emily (Jared), Maria (Ricky) and Meredith (Andrew); along with her precious great-grandchildren Braydon, Parker, Reed, Heath, Lauren, Barrett and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, her Uncle Martin O’Leary, her brother and sister-in-law David & Louise O’Neill and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Desie & Eleanor Mallette.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Eleanor’s faithful and loving caregivers Norma Noftell, Lori McLennan and to the wonderful staff of 5C South at the SJRH.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road with visitation on Wednesday January 1st, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 31 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay, on Thursday January 2nd at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception. Burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations in Eleanor’s memory may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Meals on Wheels or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
