Eleanor HANLEY
Eleanor Burns Hanley, born October 19, 1918, died peacefully June 26, 2020 at Central Haven Care Home in Saskatoon, surrounded by family. She is survived by her children, Joan (Tony) Ranere, Patricia (Bill) Roe, Mark (DiDi) Hanley, and Paul (Haleh) Hanley; by her beloved grandchildren Bryan, Anthony, Meghan, David, Ben, Will, Bede, and Kamran; seven great grandchildren; as well as the many nieces and nephews she loved. She was predeceased by her husband Paul, her brothers, sister, and sisters-in-law, and her grandson Adam. At 101, she was the last of her generation of the Burns-Hanley clan. Burns-Hanley Company, which she helped build with her husband and brother Wilf, sustained both families for over forty years. “Girlie” Burns grew up in a family of five boys, living in homes that her father had built, including her home at 2419 Athol St, in the shadow of Holy Rosary Cathedral. She was a mainstay of the congregation and church choir, and organizing multiple social and fundraising events for the CWL. She was a wonderful wife and mother and a good friend to many. Her greatest joy was having family at table, with laughter and music (often played by her on piano.) She had a great sense of humour. In her children, she instilled a sense of community responsibility, values, and extended family. In her long life, she saw the end of the horse and buggy and the emergence of space travel. Having survived the Spanish Flu and Covid-19, she died expressing love for her family, a woman of faith to the end. Due to Covid-19 there will be a Private Graveside Service, with a Celebration of Life in future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sherbrooke Foundation (sherbrookefoundation.ca) for Central Haven, where she received loving care in her last years.
