Elaine passed at home from this mortal existence into eternity, surrounded by loving family and friends. Elaine was pre-deceased by her parents, Henry FLOHR and Gladys MURDOCH, her brother George FLOHR, and her son Leslie Edmund REYNOLDS.
Elaine filled her 84 years with energy, spirit, and life. From early on in her life, despite some trying circumstances, Elaine persevered with a positive attitude and brought peace and joy into the lives of her husbands, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as countless friends and acquaintances. Elaine’s energy wasn’t confined to the home – she was also an avid hiker, skier, swimmer, badminton player, dancer, party hostess, traveler, and ukulele player!
After raising four daughters and a son, Elaine headed back to school at the University of Alberta and, at the age of 53, obtained her teaching degree. Elaine taught on the Blood Tribe reservation, the Alberta Vocational College in Slave Lake, as well as in China twice while teaching ESL(English as a Second Language).
Elaine was always involved in some way with the arts, being an actor, playwright, drawing, writing poetry and stories, as well as serving on the Raymond museum board. A special legacy of Elaine’s was her creating and printing of the life stories of herself as well as each of her five children. These books are priceless treasures to her family and individual children and will be cherished legacies in the years and decades to come.
Perhaps Elaine’s most valued activity and focus was on her Saviour and service in His Church. As a single mother, and a new convert with three small children and a fourth on the way, Elaine was steadfast in her commitment to the gospel and service in it. Elaine served in several Church callings as well as served two Church missions to China and one to Nauvoo with Doug. Elaine loved the Lord and diligently strove to be obedient, a trait that was passed on to all of her children. Elaine regularly checked up on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, inquiring on how they were living their lives and exhorting them to be obedient and live the Lord’s commandments. Geneology played a significant role in Elaine’s life as she wished for the blessings of the gospel for her late ancestors with as much enthusiasm as for her living family.
While regular chats and walks with Elaine will have to wait for varying periods of time for the rest of us, we have a testimony that Elaine is not only with her family and friends that have already left this mortal probation but that she is already being put to work teaching the gospel to those souls that are desperately in need of hearing it.
Elaine will be laid to rest on Thursday, December 31, 2020 in the Temple Hill Cemetery, north of Raymond. Due to the pandemic, gathering restrictions have limited the number of persons who can attend the interment to ten (10) persons so Doug asks that only those persons who have been individually invited to attend the interment. A Memorial Service will hopefully be able to be held later on in 2021 for all to attend.
