Obituary of Edwin John Gerling
Edwin John Gerling was born on April 1, 1934 in Macklin, Saskatchewan to Joseph and Theresa Gerling.
Ed Married June Cayford on July 6, 1959 and together they raised three children, Dale, Patty and Colleen. They lived and farmed north of Macklin until 1998 when they moved to town and their son Dale took over the family farm.
He was an avid curler, loved playing baseball and fastball, as well as coaching men’s fastball and minor hockey. He was always present watching his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews as they played ball, hockey or figure skating. Ed was a councillor for the Senlac R.M., member of the Knights of Columbus and apart of the minor hockey board.
Sadly, Ed passed away on July 25, 2020 at the St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Macklin, Saskatchewan at the age of 86 years.
He leaves behind, his wife, June; son, Dale (Brenda); daughters, Patty and Colleen; grandchildren, April (Cody) Kohlman, Ashley (Ben Stanton), Megan (Harrison) Meier and Adam (Karlie Stang); great grandchildren, Daxon, Camden and Cruz Kohlman; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Theresa; in-laws, Charlie and Maude Cayford; 5 brothers; 3 sisters; and great grandson, Casey Kohlman.
Ed was a resident of St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Macklin since August 2012. Our family would like to send many thanks to the staff for the excellent care over the years.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Macklin, Saskatchewan.
