EDWARDS George Archer 2020

EDWARDS, George Archer
George Archer Edwards, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Oshawa on Saturday, August 15, 2020. George was born in Armagh, Ireland to Charles Griffiths Edwards of Ireland and Margaret Graham of Scotland and moved to Oshawa in 1956 to start a new life. Soon after arriving to Canada he joined Young People’s Group at Knox Presbyterian Church where he met his wife of 52 years, Stella. George and Stella returned to Northern Ireland and got married at Belfast Castle, then together returned to Oshawa. While living in Oshawa, they lovingly had two children, Martin and Patricia, join them and resided beside George’s brother Desmond and family. George and Stella moved to Enniskillen where he designed his country home, enjoyed fixing cars, gardening, rural living, and his many friends. George and Stella moved back into Oshawa where he lived in his home until his time of passing. George worked as a mechanic at Stevenson’s garage upon arrival from Ireland, studied to be a teacher at OSIE and had a long career as an automotive teacher at GL Roberts Collegiate. He loved his work as a teacher and was a mentor to many. George was a collector of cars and would often put his 1967 Camero or Jaguar into car shows. He also loved poetry, family history, animals, and nature. He had several dogs and a few cats, and loved to watch birds. He frequently travelled to USA to visit his cousin Yvonne (Carl) Shultz and their family, and it was important to him to keep in contact with his family and friends; new and old, close and abroad. Many relatives from Ireland visited him over the years and he kept in constant contact with his sister Margaret Stockdale and nieces Pamela and Margot (Ian) Thornley in Scotland and niece Yvonne (Wilfie) Henning in Ireland, throughout the years. He will be fondly thought of by nephew David (Thelma) Lyttle. George is predeceased by his wife Stella, brother Desmond, sister June Lyttle, sister-in-law Violet Edwards, sister-in-law Audrey and husband Ronnie Gorman, sister-in-law Edna and husband Billy Boyd, brother-in-law Andy and wife Mary Richardson, nephew Derek, niece Yvonne Henning, nephew-in-law Steve Madden and grandnephew-in-law Andrew Richardson. George is survived by his beloved children Martin and Patricia, nephews Alan (Shelley) Edwards and Andrew Edwards. George was extremely close to Stella’s sister and family. He is survived by Kay and George Cox and their children Joan Madden, Alison (Damien) Nichols, Hilary (Angelo) Bonsignore, Beverly (Tony) Mazzaferro and his grandnieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He was awfully close to his grandnephews Jacob and Griffiths Edwards whom he adored. Additionally, grandnieces Janelle (Joe) Bakalar and Brianne (Erol) Bosut and many others were part of his loving circle of family and will him dearly. George was a kind and gentle spirited man. He was quick witted with a wonderful sense of humour. There are stories from his childhood about how he liked to make practical jokes, get into mischief, and up until his last days, about how he made people laugh or smile. He always saw the best in people yet was a man of integrity. People often said George had an “Irish twinkle in his eye”. Online condolences may be written at makfuneralhome.com. George will be put to rest at Thornton Cemetery in Oshawa. Please join the family at Lakeview Park in Oshawa on August 31st at 2:00 p.m. for an ice cream.
