Edward (Ed) Arvay was born in Willowbrook, Saskatchewan on February 22, 1928 and passed away suddenly but peacefully at the Shuswap Lake Hospital in Salmon Arm, BC on November 17, 2020 at 92 years of age. He was predeceased by his wife Rosina in March of 2016 after 59 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by all of his siblings; two sisters Rosie and Agnes and his two brothers Rudy and Victor.
Ed was born and raised on the prairies of Saskatchewan near Yorkton, where his Hungarian immigrant family farmed. Ed left the farm as a young man and worked various jobs in Alberta, in the oil patch, before meeting his bride to be in Calgary where she was attending College. Ed and Rosina got jobs in Vancouver and were married there in 1957. The young couple decided to settle in Calgary where they raised their four children. While in Calgary, Ed worked for the BA Gulf Oil Company and then later, at the Holy Cross Hospital as their boiler operator. Ed and Rosina eventually moved their family to the Deep Creek area of BC near Armstrong, Enderby and Salmon Arm in 1973 where they remained until passing. While there Ed worked at the local sawmill in Canoe and did various handyman/janitor type jobs for as long as he could.
He enjoyed spending many hours in his workshop building, repairing, painting, doing carpentry and mechanics and any other project that came along to help neighbors and friends. He also renovated and built on to the family home to accommodate his family and expanded and repaired his shop. Ed and Rosina also always had animals-milk cows, steers, chickens – and planted a huge garden. They were hard working, industrious, lived simply and were very health conscious.
Ed leaves behind him his four children – Marilyn (Lyle) Faas of Calgary, AB; Larry (Laurel) Arvay of Olds, AB; Brian (Debbie) Arvay of Savona, BC and Mervin Arvay of Deep Creek, BC; his 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
Thanks to all the staff at Mt. Ida Mews Care Community in Salmon Arm who took such good care of Ed for the last 3 years of his life. Their kindness and commitment made his days more pleasant and bearable.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Edward Arvay November 17th 2020..
