Edna Margaret Brown 19232020

Edna Margaret Brown
On May 26th, 2020, Edna Margaret Brown died
peacefully at the age of 96, in the company of her closest
family. Edna was born in Oshawa, Ontario, on August 4th,
1923, to Anna (Forbes) and Rufus Lambert, the first of 7 children.
Edna had a long and full life. She grew up during the privations of
the Depression and worked in a war materials factory during WWII. At
war’s end, she married Wally Brown, a young returning
soldier, and they commenced a life together that would span 46 years,
until his death in 1993. Wally was a career soldier, so
their life took them to many places in Canada and Europe, where she
made numerous lasting friendships. They eventually retired to
Coldbrook to be close to their only son, Gordon, and his family. Edna
was predeceased by her parents, husband Wallace, sisters Joan and Anna
(Doreen) and brother Alan (Bud). She is survived by brother, Norman,
and sisters Audrey and Adrienne. As the eldest of a large family, Edna
enjoyed playing a large and supportive role in the lives of her
siblings and several of her nieces and nephews. Edna is also survived
by her son Gordon, daughter-in-law Pamela, and their children and
grandchildren. She was immensely proud of her three grandsons, Andrew
(Julie Jennings), Peter (Claire Oswald) and Nicholas (Trisha
Mader). She loved her family dearly and, as GG Edna, she
adored her great-grandchildren, Simone, Loïc, and Ella
Margaret. Besides her family, Edna’s passions included
knitting, embroidery, and baking. Each fall her freezer would begin to
fill with an array of cookies and sweets. The great annual Christmas
cookie delivery was eagerly anticipated by all, each family member
having declared a favourite. Once a particular formulation was
declared delicious, it was bound to find a regular place in the
lineup. The family would like to thank the staff at King’s
Riverside Court, where she spent her final three years, and especially
the nurses of Med A-Valley Regional Hospital, for their care and
compassion. Due to current restrictions, there will be no public
ceremony. A family celebration will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital
Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
