December 29, 2020, of Edith Catherine McMahon (Smith), aged 93. Her
arrival in heaven was a joyous occasion as she was greeted by family
and friends whom she missed dearly while on Earth. Edith was born in
Kinkora on January 11, 1927, to Mabel (Johnston) and Will Smith. After
completing Grade 12 she enrolled in Prince of Wales College in
Charlottetown where she received awards for her academic
accomplishments. Upon graduation, she returned to Kinkora to work in
Jim Callaghan’s store. On November 15, 1948, she
married Joseph Pope McMahon and they remained in Kinkora until August,
1961, when Dad was transferred to Charlottetown for work. Left to
mourn her death are her children – Sandra (Lorne) Gallant,
Karen (Don-deceased) Callbeck, Diane (Allan-deceased) and Gerard
(Ellen) McMahon. Her grandchildren Andrea (Russel) Boyle, Tommy
Gallant, William (Mandy) Callbeck, Patrick (Alexis) Callbeck, Matthew
Smith, Beth, Kate and Robbie McMahon. She was the beloved Great
Grannie and Cookie Maker to Ava Grace and Bennett Boyle and Eric and
Alex Callbeck. She also leaves behind two brothers, Ab (Terry) Smith
in Calgary and Les (Betty) Smith in Summerside, and two sisters-in-law
Georgie Smith in Kinkora and Anne Smith in Toronto. Mom was
predeceased by her husband Pope, her parents, her beloved aunts, Ada
and Mary Smith, her brothers Louis (Alice) Smith, Gerald (Ita) Smith,

Being Irish and Catholic, our family was blessed by an abundance of
nieces and nephews all who wish her a speedy and safe trip to her
resting place. Arrangement have been entrusted to the Lawless Funeral
Home in Kinkora. Because of COVID restrictions there will be no
visitation and we regret the funeral will be by invitation. The
funeral will be on Thursday, December 31, 2020, and will be live
streamed so please check the death announcement at the Lawless Funeral
Home for the link. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the
Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation. The family would like to take
this time to thank Island EMS and all staff at the Queen Elizabeth
Hospital who showed Mom such respect and dignity during her short
