Douglas Clifford Bramer
July 14, 1924 – December 12, 2020
Douglas Clifford Bramer, in his 97th year, passed into the presence of his Lord on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Faith Manor, Brampton. He was born in Hamilton on July 14, 1924. What transpired between those dates was a story of God’s grace displayed in a life characterized by gentleness, optimism, and an unfailing faith in God at work in the midst of life’s ups and downs.
Beloved husband of the late Vera (Stewart) Bramer, father of Paul (Marlene), Stephen (Sharon), Eleanor (Kevin), Tim (Beth), Mark (late Anne) (Laurie), Ruth (Barry), Martha (John); grandfather of 18, and great-grandfather of 21. He is survived by siblings Gord, Evelyn and Anne, and a great number of nephews, nieces and their families.
Doug was the 4th of 15 children born to William and Annie Bramer. At age 8 Doug put his faith in Jesus as his Saviour and regularly attended Bethany Gospel Hall. During the depression Doug finished Grade 8 then worked to help support the family. Further spiritual and character development came through his 4 years of education at Emmaus Bible College.
While doing summer children’s Bible clubs in northern Ontario, Doug became acquainted with the Stewart family and specifically their daughter Vera. Doug married the love of his life Vera in August of 1950. They lived in North Bay, Sudbury (Paul and Stephen), North Bay again (Eleanor, Tim and Mark), Pembroke, Sudbury again, and then Oakville (Ruth and Martha). Doug and Vera were blessed by God with 66 years of marriage. Vera passed on to Glory in 2017.
Doug worked hard to provide for his family. He had various jobs in mining, insurance, a moving company, and then had a career as a graduate jeweller at Streight’s Jewellers in Oakville for 27 years until retirement—the day of his 65th birthday! Doug had an extensive Christian ministry and was a long-time elder at Hopedale Bible Chapel, Oakville. They were also involved over the years at Camp Aush-Bik-Koong, the Golden Horseshoe Christian Youth Centre and the Friday Night Fellowship. Doug led devotional times at two different Oakville senior residences for many years and served as Padre for the Oakville Legion. The retirement years were happy and full of family events, travel, enjoying grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Doug Bramer – a family man, a committed Christian and lay minister, an enthusiastic retailer, a sportsman, a mentor and a friend. It is with loving tears of joy that the family celebrates his Heavenly Homegoing.
Memorial donations may be given to Hopedale Bible Chapel (Missions) or Camp Aush-Bik-Koong.
The family would like to thank Faith Manor for their compassionate care.
