Obituary of Dorothy Irene Marshall
It is with great sadness that the family, friends and loved ones of Dorothy announce her passing on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. She was predeceased by infant son Douglas; infant daughter Karen and infant son Robert; father and mother, Charles (Curly) and Rosina Morgan; four brothers, Buck (Olga), Ted (Joan), Jim (Marjorie) and Don. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Elton; son David; sister-in-law Christina; favorite niece Linda; favorite nephews, Wayne and Donnie; as well as other nieces and nephews.
Dorothy liked to play the piano and sing country songs. On Sundays, she played the organ for the early church service at the Anglican Church in Melville, SK., and at 11:00 a.m. she played the organ at the church service in Duff, SK. She was a Registered Nurse having graduated from the Saskatoon City Hospital Student Nurse’s Program in 1955. Out of 100 of her class mates, she was presented with the Award for being the best student nurse in Pediatrics. She received a scholarship to attend a program in the College of Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan. Dorothy worked for a year, then attended University and graduated with a Diploma in Teaching and Supervision. She taught at the Regina General Hospital, Providence Hospital in Moose Jaw, Nurse Supervisor at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Admissions Nurse at Ontario Hospital in Kingston, Ontario, Student Nurse Teacher, Stratford General Hospital, Teaching Master, Humber College in Toronto and Teaching Master at Sir Sanford Fleming College, Peterborough, Ontario.
Dorothy and Elton were married in 1957 and both were so happy when their son David arrived in 1967.
Dorothy was a good athlete in both elementary and high school in Melville, SK. During the annual field day she won first prize in all the events, except in discus and javelin throws. She always said, “those farm girls have bigger arms than mine.” She was captain of the girl’s hockey team, and skip of the girl’s curling team.
Dorothy loved to fish. She would ask if you wanted a little bet; a dollar on the first fish, a dollar on the biggest fish and a dollar on the most fish. She always won two out of the three. She was given a Certificate of Proficiency by the Ontario Sailing Association. Dorothy was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and received her fifty year gold pin award a few years ago. Her Beta Sisters were and still are “FOREVER FRIENDS.” She was a board member of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) in Peterborough, Ontario and also in Regina, Saskatchewan. Dorothy was a member of the Elizabeth Fry Society and visited female inmates many times at the Prison for Women in Kingston, Ontario.
In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make memorial donations to a charity of your choice.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dorothy
