Obituary of Dorothy Harrison (nee Hirtle)
HARRISON, Dorothy (née Hirtle)- Of Wallacetown, ON, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, in her 93rd year. Beloved wife for 50 years to the late James R. “Jim” Harrison (2005). Loved mother of Sandy Moorhouse, and cherished grandmother of David Moorhouse (Paige), and the late Leighanne Moorhouse. She was proud of her great grandchildren, Nallah and Sami Moorhouse. Dear sister of Audrey Smith (Robert). Treasured aunt of Karen Brown (late Ron), and their children, Tanya (Chris), Darryl (Kerry), and Angela (Shawn). Also fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and their families. A sister, Elaine Hayden (late Thomas), and brothers, Murray Hirtle (late Kay) and Robert Hirtle (late Patricia) predeceased Dorothy. Born in Kitchener, ON, August 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Seward W. and Margaret (née Mosher) Hirtle. Dorothy was a case worker with the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, retiring after 30 years. She was a valued member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Port Stanley. Dorothy volunteered at the Bobier Villa, Dutton for a number of years. A private graveside service will be held at Aylmer Cemetery. A public celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations to Bobier Villa Residents Council or the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged. Arrangements entrusted to the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
