Obituary
It is with deep sadness that the family of Dorothy May Johnson announce her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on October 28, 2020. Born on August 23, 1924 to the late Charles and Mary (Nugent) Trott, Dorothy was the oldest daughter in a family of 13 children. From her first moment to her last, she was completely and utterly devoted to her family. Like a second mother to her younger siblings and an adopted “Nanny” to nearly all who were fortunate enough to know her, she was a true family matriarch whose endless guidance, care and comforting nature will be truly missed.
Dorothy was known by all for her greatest skills and her most loved hobbies: cooking, knitting, and crocheting. A visit was never had without the common question “Can I get you something to eat?”. “No” was never an option – and was rarely offered up as an answer by anyone who had ever sat at her table. All family babies were welcomed into the world with her blankets and sweaters and she made certain to pass along her magical abilities to family members who were willing to pick up needles or crochet hooks.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children: Wayne Johnson (Joanne), Judy Johnson (Tim Slack) and Brian Johnson; her granddaughters Sherry Pitre, Lisa Bacon and Amy Watts; her “grandson-in-law”, Adam Pitre; great grandchildren Tyler Collier, Alex Collier and Sophie Collier; several brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50+ years, Cecil Johnson, and by many of her brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank Dr. Luan Le and the compassionate staff of 5C South and the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital for the wonderful care provided to Dorothy and her family during her final days.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road where visitation will be held on Friday October 30, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. A Celebration of Her Life will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday October 31, 2020 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Fernhill Cemetery. Please note, masks and social distancing will be required. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
