Obituary
Duthie, Doris Edna
Sept. 11, 1920 – Aug. 16, 2020
Doris passed away peacefully at the Claresholm Hospital, days short of her 100th birthday while being treated for pneumonia. She was predeceased by her husband Doug in 1986 and daughter Linda Gogal (Barry) in 2011. She is survived by her daughters Gayle Green (Doug), Nina Shimp, Betty Lou Hagen (Don) and son Blayne; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great – great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was born and raised in the Nanton area where she married Douglas Duthie in 1940 and they raised their five children there with Doug working at the Crown Lumber Yard and Doris at Stewart’s Clothing Store and Armstrong’s Department Store for many years. She was a strong and loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be remembered with great devotion by all of her family and friends. Doris always kept herself busy, as an excellent handicrafter with her knitting, sewing, crocheting, quilting, cross stitching, making clothes and dressing her collection of dolls, which numbered in the hundreds and creating unique ceramic figurines. She also loved playing cards with family and friends and was known to be one shrewd opponent. Due to the current pandemic, a formal service will not be held, but the family will arrange a private tribute in the near future. Gratitude is extended to the caregivers at the Claresholm Hospital and the Silver Willow Lodge in Nanton, where Doris has resided for the past six years and a special thanks from the rest of the family to daughter Nina, who devoted so much time and attention caring for her mom during her later years.
