Obituary
With heavy hearts but an appreciation for a life well lived we announce the passing of our mother Doreen Tresa Gillen (Strang) on Sunday June 7th, 2020 at the age of 90.
Born June 5, 1930, the daughter of the late George and Stella (Gallagher) Strang. Doreen lived all of her life in Saint John. On September 13, 1952 she married William James Gillen, the love of her life. Widowed much too soon, she raised, on her own, four daughters and provided us with a strong foundation to build our productive lives. We loved her deeply and will miss her tremendously. Doreen was a strong woman with a gentle spirit who was beloved by all. She lived a full and active life enjoying her card games and bingo. She loved her bowling and dancing. She was an excellent seamstress, knitter and quilter and enjoyed passing these skills onto anyone who was interested. She was a member of the CWL of St Joseph’s Parish. Doreen worked at International Harvester for many years before leaving to raise her family. She then returned to the work force as receptionist for Dr Joseph Prescott where she continued until her retirement. She is survived by her daughters Pamela Davidson ( Peter) of Sus NB, Angela Millett (David) of Saint John NB, Sherrie Rourke (Stephen Lohnes) of Hampton NB and Denise McLaughlin (Patrick) of Saint John, NB, 9 grandchildren, Shaunna McLaughlin (Jon Floyd), Tara Davidson (Rick Louw), Scott Davidson, Nicholas Rourke (Sarah), Lindsay Legere (Jamie), Mitchell Rourke (Morgan), Steven Mclaughlin (Stephanie), Cody Millett (Jillisa), Shannon Ramsay (Dylan), 7 great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Bryce, Will, Violet, Quinn, Maddison, Peri and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her siblings George Strang Jr, Vernon Strang, Phyllis Kindred (Strang), Evelyn Kindred (Strang) her twin brother Donald Strang and her son in law Fred Rourke. Doreen was the last member of her immediate family.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) A private visitation and service will be held on Thursday June 11th, 2020. Due to the current public health restrictions. Invite only please.
