Doreen’s Obituary
Doreen Faye Field – 64, Born in Pugwash NS, passed away Nov 7th, 2020 at East Cumberland Lodge, with family by her side. Beloved daughter of Lois (Scott) and Howard Field; sister of Wayne, Linda and Joan, all predeceased. Doreen is survived by her niece Paula Miller (Punta Cana, DR) and nephew Blaise Sampson (St. Peters, CB). Aunts Grace (Scott) Patriquin, Dora (Garnet) Scott, and Erma (Leonard) Scott, and many loving cousins of the Scott and Field families. Doreen’s early childhood was spent in the Valley Road next door to her loving grandparents Stewart and Lizzie Scott, until the family moved to River Philip a focal point for family gatherings , she proudly called River Philip home until her death. Surrounded by love and encouragement from her family and friends Doreen went to school at the Halifax Institute for the blind, and was then home schooled by her loving Mother Lois, she then attended the GOVRC in Springhill for many years. Although Doreen lost her sight completely in 2004 she never lost her optimism or desire to contribute in whatever way possible to the daily tasks at home or to participate in the many events and activities at the lodge. She enjoyed playing 45’s, bowling, bingo, many crafts, and of course knitting of which she developed a little cottage industry for her dish cloths. Music and singing gave Doreen great pleasure and she never missed a Saturday night hoedown, a family tradition. Doreen had a fondness for Mickey Mouse, and enjoyed telling the story of her visit to Disneyland as well as a her vacation trips to Ontario to visit family. Doreen’s memory for birthdays, anniversaries and other memorable occasions was a delight to all her knew her. Doreen was a lifelong member of the United Church. Doreen made an impact on those who met her, she will be sadly missed by all who loved her. A special thanks to the residents and staff of East Cumberland Lodge who made it not just a place to live but a 2nd home for her by becoming such dear friends and providing her with outstanding care. She will be remembered with great love, just as she was surrounded by it during her life. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 11 from 1 to 2 p.m., with service immediately following at 2 p.m., all in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford
