Donna’s Obituary
The family of the late Donna Lee Makowsky, beloved wife of Orest Makowsky of Mazeppa, SK, announce her passing at the Kamsack Hospital on Friday, October 30, 2020, at the age of 70 years.
Donna Lee started her adventure on May 2, 1950, with her parents, George and Marguerite (nee Paynter) MacLeod. She grew up in Long River, P.E.I., with her brother, Wendell and sister, Betty. She graduated from Kensington High School with plans to start a career in banking, but instead things turned out much more interesting. Soon after, she married her first husband, Gerald, and they had two sons, Gerry and Kirk. They lived in New London, Prince Edward Island, where Donna did various odd jobs while raising her young family. After ten years and a divorce, Donna moved out west to Calgary, AB, and took full advantage of her independence. She was a jack-of-all-trades, including selling auto parts, driving taxi, and waitressing to make ends meet. Eventually Donna made a trek to Saskatchewan to visit friends, and soon became interested in farming. Through her friends, she met her second husband, Orest Makowsky, and they had a daughter, Jenny. She continued to farm with Orest for over thirty years, only starting to slow down after her third diagnosis with cancer in 2016. Choosing quality of life, she fought the disease in her own way, continuing to live life to the fullest until finally succumbing to the disease on October 30, 2020.
She was always passionate and driven in her life – always in pursuit of her next dream, but never leaving behind those she loved, until now. She will be sorely missed, and her family wishes her well on her next big adventure.
Donna was predeceased by her parents, Marguerite and George, and her brother, Wendell.
She is survived by husband, Orest; children: Gerry, Kirk and Jenny; grandchildren: Kristi, Brandon and Jesse; great-grandchildren, Leah and Brielle; and her sister, Betty.
A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home with Rev. Marg Janick-Grayston officiating. Interment will follow in the Sliding Hills Christian Cemetery, Mazeppa, SK. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to a Charity of Donor’s, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Donna Lee Makowsky.
