ARCHER, Donald (Don) Kenneth – 65
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of Donald Kenneth Archer, announce his passing on June 18, 2020, in Shelburne. Don was the younger son of the late Reverend Lloyd and Anna(Morrison) Archer. He was also pre-deceased by his brother Peter. Don is survived by his beloved son Ben, Shelburne; his sister Jean and brother-in-law Norman Girard, New Glasgow; Ben’s mother Angela, Halifax; his partner Kathy Buchanan, Sandy Point; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Born in Tryon, PEI, Don’s family relocated to Antigonish, then Halifax, settling in Wolfville. Don graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Arts and from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Commerce. In 1985 Don moved to Shelburne where he was employed with the Department of Community Services until his retirement in 2016. Throughout his career, Don’s kindness touched the hearts of many Shelburne county residents. Don was well read and enjoyed debate often delighting in taking the contrary side. He loved music: Van Morrison, Ry Cooder, and John Prine were favourites. Don was an enthusiastic curler, golfer, and avid football and baseball fan. He particularly enjoyed coaching his son Ben in baseball. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. Interment will be in Willowbank cemetery, Wolfville, at a later date. A celebration of life will occur in Shelburne when large gatherings are permitted. Special thanks to the Shelburne RCMP, especially Lindsay Power, Ground Search and Rescue, family friends Myrna Guye-Gregory, Derek Williams, Peter Fry and his children Eben, Lauren, and Hazen, and the community of Shelburne. Memorial donations can be made to Nova Scotia Mental Health, Christmas Daddies, or your local food bank.
