FERRELL, Derek C.
October 25, 1988 – April 27, 2020
Derek Clayton Ferrell was born on the evening of October 25, 1988 to Arlene Ferrell. He started his early childhood years in Saskatoon, SK where he was able to have an amazing bond with his grandmother that made him the big teddy bear he was. He then moved to Calgary, AB where he soon was a brother to Nicholas and became a protective person for the people he cared for. Derek often spent Friday nights at a youth center called The Cave, where he enjoyed being a DJ. He created many bonds and lifetime friendships, while in Calgary, who he impacted, and in return impacted his life as well, especially Pam, Tyler and Tiffany. When Derek was 19 he rejoined his family in his home in Saskatchewan. Derek later started his trucking career and travelled near and far. He loved to tell people he had been in almost every State. He had a love for dogs and he almost wouldn’t go anywhere without his furry companion. Derek enjoyed and was proud to be a part of the trucking community, and was a part of a dog rescue based out of Ontario that brought the dogs to Saskatchewan to their adoptive families. Derek had a love and respect for service and would go out of his way to thank a person in uniform. He would always lend a helping hand, whether it was a stranger or a friend in need. One time in Calgary a neighbour’s garage caught fire and Derek grabbed the garden hose and put it in the window. He always tried to help out in any situation no matter how out of his power it was. He loved to get a laugh and would say almost anything to get a chuckle out of anyone. Derek always had a love for small town life and could never get tired of loud trucks, late bonfires and the friendly people. He lived the remainder of his life in Wakaw, SK and enjoyed fixing project vehicles, BBQing, hanging out with friends, mudding, and being with his family. On April 27, 2020 Derek went home to be with his Savior. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Susan and Clayton Ferrell, his Uncle Gary, and his dog Jocko. He is lovingly remembered by his mother Arlene Ferrell, of Wakaw, brother Nicholas, of Wakaw, Aunt Lyn and Uncle Wes, of Waldheim, Uncle Ernie of Saskatoon, Aunt Darlene of Calgary, cousins Trevor and Craig of Calgary, James and Justin of Calgary, and Jesse of Saskatoon, as well as numerous friends. You will forever be in our hearts and in our lives. You will be incomprehensively missed by so many people.
