Obituary of David Canning
David Arthur Canning, 57, of Water Street, Westville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer on January 19, 2020 in Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born at the Aberdeen Hospital to Russell and Dorothy (Chisholm) Canning, David worked with the Chignecto Regional Centre for Education for 31 years in Janitorial and Maintenance retiring 2 years ago.
David’s joy in life was making people smile and laugh – he was very quick witted. Right to the end David had a joke for everyone who came to visit.
David is survived by his wife of 38 years Charlene (MacKinnon) and son Christopher, grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christopher, Sage and God children, Rose and Matthew. They looked up at him with love each time they called him Poppi. David had a special place in his heart for chosen sons, Dan and Rob.
David is survived by brothers, Jack (Pamela), Russell, Clayton (Donna), Donald (Susan) sisters, Cathy (John) Van Den Eynden, Mary Jane (Louis) Marcott, many nieces, nephews, and great and great-grand nieces and nephews. David loved and was loved by his large family-in-law including many nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his son David Allan, sister Ruth and brother Chesley (Chet).
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team of Dr. Anne Kwasnik including Rachel MacDonald, RN and the VON Visiting Nurses and the many family and friends who visited David over the last few months.
The family will be receiving visitors at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville on Friday, January 25 from 7 -9 pm. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 26 at 4:00 pm from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Dr. Mary Taylor officiating. Donations in David’s memory to the Palliative Care Unit or a charity of your choice would be very much appreciated.
