It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of David William Thornhill, age 22 on September 16, 2020.
He was predeceased by his fishing buddy and grandfather, William Cox, his great-grandmother Bertha Cox, his great-grandparents Phillip and Susannah Blagdon, William and Elise Thornhill, and Augustus and Edna Hillier. There were also a large circle of aunts, uncles and cousins awaiting his arrival.
He is survived by his parents Ross and Tracey Thornhill, his sister Isabella Thornhill, his grandmother Phoebe Cox, his grandparents Jordan and Margaret Thornhill, his great-grandfather Garfield Cox, his Uncle Jamie Thornhill (Lorraine), his Aunt Kim Hunter (Julius), his Aunt Janelle Prentice (Andrew), his Uncle Andy Cox (Heather),his Uncle Jamey Cox (Vicky) and his many cousins. Leaving to mourn also are a loving girlfriend Mikayla Welch and a large circle of friends and family, too numerous to mention. We are forever grateful to the support we have received in this most difficult of times from both family and friends here and in Alberta.
Nicknamed “Hollywood” in high school, David had a big personality and was never forgotten. He was a friend to all and a positive light to many. He lived every minute to its fullest. He has touched many over the years, through his many activities including his numerous hockey teams. The year he played with the Hickman Ice Men team was the “best year of hockey ever” he said with great teammates and coaches, Adam and Matt. His many years at Xtreme Hockey brought him many close friendships that have lasted since childhood. David began Tae Kwon Do classes when he was only five and received his black belt at age 13 under the guidance of Gloria Hanlon. His move to Alberta two years ago, brought him closer to his two uncles, Andy and Jamey Cox. During his return trips to Newfoundland he always looked forward to cod fishing and George Street with his friends. David’s loving, charming ways made it impossible to remain mad for long, always making you smile instead. His witty ways has left everyone with a memory or a favorite quote. He will be missed by many.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, Torbay, with visitation on Sunday, September 27 from 2 PM – 6 PM. Funeral service details to be announced. Donations can be made in memory to the Family.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of David Thornhill 2020..
Death notice for the town of: Torbay, Province: T-N
David was an honest, dependable, thoughtful, giving, considerate young man. He would drop what he was doing in a heart beat if anyone ever needed anything. During the death of my grandparents, Hollywood went on drives with me, comforted me and his kind words will never be forgotten. We weren’t even very close and he would come pick me up and bring me to get ice cream, make me laugh, and talk to me until he made sure I was feeling better. That is just the kind of guy David was. It was an honour and a blessing to know him. His huge heart was one of a kind and he will be so missed. I am so sorry for your tragic loss.
