GLADSTONE, David – “David was the eldest child with three sisters. He represented his high school on “Reach for the Top”, clinching his credentials as a walking encyclopedia.
After graduating from McGill and Carlton with degrees in engineering, David had an illustrious career as a research scientist for the Canadian government.
David became a passionate advocate for preserving the heritage and parks of Ottawa. He was one of the main writers/photographers for a weekly Ottawa publication and supported passionately a local band. It was because of his Canadian pride that he developed the persona ‘Captain Canuck’ every July 1st.
David never complained through all the indignities and pain that primary progressive Multiple Sclerosis brought him. He will be deeply missed by his family and all those who had the good fortune to know him.”
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of David Gladstone Thursday June 04 2020..

May he rest in peace
So sorry to learn of David’s passing. My sincere condolences to family and friends. David was a good man, passionate in his beliefs, effective in handling diverse opinions, a man of action. He will be sorely missed by all.
Very sad to hear. For many years, David was one of the three “Daves” in our long-running exercise dance class – and I’ll never forget seeing him in the audience at Barrymore’s whenever a local group was playing. Condolences to the family.
I didn’t know David very well, but I was always impressed with his enthusiastic support for the Ottawa music scene. I’d see him out at shows all the time and he’d always be enjoying himself and encouraging and supportive to the musicians. He stoically sat through a lots and lots of my own sub-par performances with a pint and a smile and an encouraging word. What a great cat! He’ll be missed.
I used to see David all of the time at Barrymore’s spinning on the dance floor. He always brought a smile to my face. RIP, David.
I worked with David at National Defence and I was always impressed by his knowledge and ability. He may have been a bit eccentric but he was a pleasure to work with. My condolences to his family. May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob be with you.
I met with David many times on the streets of Ottawa. He certainly was an interesting character. It’s unfortunate that we never worked on a project together. We need more people like him, they are too few and too far between.
