David Fredrick Joy
It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce that Dad hoisted his sail and made his final voyage downwind to his home in heaven after a short illness in the QE11 Hospital on April 27, 2020, at the age of 74 years. Born in Halifax on March 29, 1946 he was the son of the late Eric A. and Mildred (Fernandez) Joy.
David grew up in Black Point, Nova Scotia. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish, Hubbards. He was well known in the Refrigeration Business, working for CIMCO Ltd., Dartmouth for 49 years. Dad will be remembered for his larger than life personality and his colourful use of language. He was an avid storyteller, who loved to make his friends and family laugh. Dad loved his sailing adventures in St. Margaret’s Bay and spending time being a Grampy or driving around in the community. He is survived by his children Craig Joy (Jocelyn Gaudet), Kelly Joy (Steve LeBlanc), Christopher Joy and his only grandchild Gabrielle Joy LeBlanc. He is also survived by his brothers Paul (Cathy), Sackville, Tony (Trudy), Black Point and his sister Mary Lee O’Neil (Terry), Black Point, several nieces and nephews, Erin Joy, Andrew Joy, Dr. Eric Joy, Meghan O’Neil , Cailin O’Neil and Brandon Joy. Special thanks to the staff of QE11, 5.2 ICU, Trudy Joy, Dr. Eric Joy and Dr. Maria Lang for their support. His remains have been cremated and the arrangements are under the care of Ronald A.
