David’s Obituary
Reid, David Clarence age 63, Pugwash – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David on April 23, 2020. He was born in Tatamagouche, September 15, 1956 to the late James and Ethel (Nairn) Reid, formerly of Fox Harbour. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 25 years, Nancy (Murray) Reid. Nancy was his champion supporter and caregiver during his recent illness. He was the proud father of Jordan (Megan Thompson) and passed on his passion for sailing, cars, listening to music of the 70’s and 80’s, and most importantly basketball. He was involved in every aspect of Jordan’s life and spent valuable hours on and off the court teaching him a strong work ethic and valuable life and basketball skills. He is survived by Muriel Dickinson, Patsy McFadyen, Donna Reid, Shirley (Wade) Shields and several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Pugwash District High School in 1975 and was a talented basketball player. In 1979 he received his B.Ed in Physical Education from Dalhousie University. He began teaching in St. John NB but his heart drew him back home. He taught Physical Education, Science and Health at Pugwash District High School for many years. Over the course of his coaching career, the Lady Panthers basketball team won 4 Provincial Championships. He took his players under his wing, motivated, encouraged and inspired them to be their best. Over the years, the Lady Panthers traveled far and wide and put Pugwash on the map. His influence and legacy continues today in the lives he touched. Nancy and David met on the basketball court and were married on July 30, 1994. He took great pride in coaching mini ball in Pugwash and Wallace and later with the Metro Basketball League (Fall River Rebels, Bedford Eagles, Sackville Storm and U14 BNS). He passed on the fundamentals and maximized each player’s potential. David was one of the founding members of the Brickyard Marina, a member of the Pugwash Yacht Club, a past Village Commissioner and held countless fundraisers for basketball so players could attend summer camps. David’s love for sailing not only included being on the open water with winds in the sails, but entailed searching for boats and boat parts throughout Nova Scotia, Ontario and Florida with his boating friends and recently with Jordan. David had a love for all sports including golf, baseball, downhill skiing and always had great fishing tales to share. They spent time together visiting his sisters, attending concerts and taking trips to Caribbean islands and a memorable cruise. David’s most recent pleasure was spending time with Jordan and Megan along with their puppy, Nash and Remi who always brought a smile to his face. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mundles Funeral Home, 204 Water Street, Pugwash (902) 243-2506. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2020, at the Fox Harbour Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of David can be made to Victoria Order of Nurses, Canadian Red Cross Society, the Wallace and District Volunteer Fire Department or the Fox Harbour Community Cemetery. Special thanks to Dr. Blaikie, Dr. Parks, Dr. Lynch, the nurses, OT specialists and PT at the NSRC in Halifax, and special thanks to Jeannette, Joan, Eve and others that assisted in his rehabilitation to obtain goals one step at a time. Finally, to his primary care team of the VON for going above and beyond in their services.
“I love you more today than yesterday but not as much as tomorrow.”
