Obituary of Daniel Steven Bigec
BIGEC, Daniel Steven – On this earth there are many types of people. Good, bad and then there are the exceptional ones. We all know some of each kind. Today with shattered hearts we sadly announce the sudden passing of one of the greatest. Daniel Steven Bigec, 34, passed away at his residence in Kamloops, BC. Our lives were blessed and joyous because of him. Now they will be forever crushed without him. His smile was so beautiful that you could not help but smile in return. He had the ability to turn anyone’s sadness to joy. He was such a kind gentle person, almost to a fault. There was nobody that Danny would not help. His generosity of himself was infinite. If you were fortunate enough to have known Danny, you would understand the hole that this has left in our family and how this world will never be the same without him. For the true friends he had, the people who worked with and for him and his extended circle of communities he was involved with, you understand what this loss means to you and his family.
In his short time with us here, he managed to rise to one of the top people of his firm in which he was directly responsible for a crew, often even those much older. He was widely respected and highly regarded because of his knowledge, attention to detail, his quest for accuracy and perfection and his constant attention put forth for the safety of his crew. He was solely responsible for the opening of the division of Weir operations in Kamloops. Because of his stellar reputation and strong work ethic, he was transferred with Weir Corporation to Oil Sands Imperial Oil Company in Wood Buffalo, Alberta where he was the Kearl Site Mechanical Superintendent.
Danny had many passions he enjoyed. One being his love of sports cars. BMW’s in particular. Two of which were a source of pride for him. He was meticulous with every detail as he was with everything he did. There was no cleaner car in Sarnia. He also entered many car shows with his prized Mitsubishi Spyder Eclipse with which he won countless trophies and accolades. He was a natural born athlete with many sports but soccer was his favourite. He played on several select travel teams and was an amazing player that helped St. Christopher’s High School to the OFSAA championships in his senior year. His strong left foot and acrobatics on the field were remarkable and his #10 will never be worn by a finer player both on and off the pitch.
Danny had many wonderful friends. Many of whom he could connect with even if weeks, months or years passed by as though no time had passed at all. You know who you are, all of Danny’s true friends knew they could call him anytime for anything and he would be there no questions asked. He made several friends while in Kamloops and it gave our family great comfort knowing he had people who cared for and loved him as we were so far away. Danny’s greatest passion however, was his family. His father Marijan was his hero. He always looked forward to their projects together and always turned to him for advice. He was always looking forward to coming and working on the cars, going for a cruise and our pig roasts. His brother Nick was his best friend. There was no one happier or more proud when Nick found his true love Jennifer. He was so excited about his big brother’s upcoming wedding and the life he and Jen were going to build together. He loved his extended family with all his heart. So happy for Jenna and Keaton and being able to celebrate at their wedding. He was so looking forward to finally seeing in person, the baby blue eyes of Kacey who he was looking to spoil. He was so very proud of Ryan and the young man he grew up to be and happy for him when he met Shawn and they started their life together. His Kuma Barb loved him to earth’s end and he always made sure to remind her how much he loved her. He always said to be sure to take care of everyone and always reminded to say make sure you tell everyone “love from me”.
He is survived also by Aunt Marica and Zarko, Aunt Ruzica and Marijan, Petra and Nicholas. Uncle Zelko, Aunt Barka and family and Grandma Katica, all of Croatia. He was very proud of his heritage and of being Croatian. He always spoke of the trip we would all take one day. He was predeceased by his mother Branka in 2003. A one of a kind person with a heart of gold has left us here broken with grief words cannot express. Our love for him will stay with us and we will keep his memory alive with all of the memories we have shared. There will never be another Danny.
In lieu of flowers or donations, we would greatly appreciate that in Danny’s memory everyone continue as Danny lived and do acts of kindness in his honour. Make someone smile as he did always, do something nice for someone as he did always, extend a helping hand to someone in need as he always had. And when you do, remember him and say, this is what Danny would have done. Let’s make this world a better place because Danny did.
