It is with great sadness that the family announces his passing with his family by his side at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Danny was the son of the late Robert and Mary Flora Gillis, of Judique, NS. Danny is survived by his wife of 32 years Anita (Beaton), his loving daughters Erica (Trevor) Bourgeois and Kimberly both of Yellowknife, NWT, his step daughter Tanya Smith (Nick), Calgary, AB. His granddaughter and best buddy Blake Bourgeois who he was so proud of and always had a Blake story for anyone that would listen. Danny is survived by his sisters Roberta (Finlay) Sutherland, Kanata, ON; Eileen (Bill Matson) MacKay, Lisle, ON and Kate (Ed) Storm, Bedford, NS; his brothers Frank and John (Maureen) both of Judique, NS and his niece and nephews Colin, Devon, Kyle, Mikylah and Keenan,and his extended Beaton family.
Besides his parents Danny was predeceased by his infant brother Daniel and his in-laws Angus and Mary Florence Beaton, Port Hood, NS.
Danny was a proud member of the International Operators Engineers Union, Local 721, for 30 years where he was a well known heavy equipment operator in the construction industry, working mostly for Zutphen Contractors. This enabled him to enjoy his many “Toys”, especially his 87 Monte Carlo SS which he was so proud of. Danny enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and snowmobiling and of course the NASCAR races every Sunday.
The family would like to thank the dedicated Oncology and Palliative Care Teams of Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care for the last 4 years.
Visitation will be held in the Community Room of the Judique Fire Hall on Monday December 7, 2020 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday December 8, 2020 at 11 am at St. Andrew’s Parish, Judique, NS. Masks are required and all Covid-19 rules will be in place. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to the Inverness Palliative Care Unit or St. Andrew’s Church Judique, NS.
Arrangements are entrusted to Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
