It is with profound sadness that the family of Edgerton Dabreo (affectionately known as Edgie) announces his passing on May 21, 2020, at the age of 68, after a long and courageous battle with heart disease.
Edgie was predeceased by his father Lester, his beloved mother Stella (Veira), and cherished big sister Deanna “Dina”.
He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings Nita (Kent), Audrey, Lewis and Raymond (Johanne), his nephews Brian, Lee, Earl, Kristopher and niece Stephanie, as well as his great-niece Anaka and great-nephews Zavyer, Jackson, Carter, and Elliott. He will be especially missed by his childhood best friend and “brother from another mother”, John and his siblings, as well as close friends Ed and Irene, and many other friends and former colleagues.
Edgie was a great intellect, very well read, and enjoyed keeping abreast of current events. A talented natural debater, he loved to have lively discussions on a wide variety of topics, including sports, classic rock music, history, politics, quantum physics, the meaning of life, and whether life exists “out there”. He was passionate about motorcycles and classic cars, especially his treasured Boss Mustang, which was in the process of restoration. One of his dreams was to finally be able to enjoy leisurely long drives with his family and friends once it was completely restored.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Royal Victoria Hospital Seventh Floor Departments and ICU who took such good care of Edgie throughout his 8-month hospital stay. Given his penchant for talking, he was able to connect with many of the doctors, nurses and other dedicated support staff over topics of shared interests during his valiant battle for life. This was especially appreciated during the past few weeks when visiting was prohibited due to COVID-19.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edgie’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation.
Due to the current pandemic, a memorial service/celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
To quote one of Edgie’s favourite lines from “Get Together” by the Youngbloods, “…we are but a moment’s sunlight fading in the grass”.
