Obituary
On Tuesday, October 20, Mary Catherine Chambers passed away peacefully in the early morning. Catherine will be remembered by her son Marc Gibbon (Barbara) and Daughter Alison Baker (Brett Champagne). Known as Grammie to her grandchildren Melissa, Clara, and Zeke, and Cathy to her many siblings, nephews and nieces and friends. Catherine had a wonderful sense of humour, a big laugh, and a gift for telling stories. She was an avid reader, and always happy to pass on gifts of books to others. She loved British television, was always planning her next garden, and had a big heart, especially for animals.
Catherine was a woman of no small passions, demonstrated through her work with the NDP from the late 1970’s up to her retirement. A fierce defender of those marginalized in Canada, she was a vocal advocate for women, minorities and those who needed a voice. A well known organizer, she worked in many election campaigns across the country, supporting candidates and training volunteers and staff.
