Capt. Roy “Sonny”‘s Obituary
Capt. Roy W. “Sonny” Murphy – Age 74, Amirault’s Hill, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully with family at his side, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on Monday, June 8, 2020 after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Born July 1, 1945 in Yarmouth to the late Norma Murphy, Sonny was raised by Peter and Seretha Moulaison. He was a well-respected fishing captain, having worked for a time in the lobster fishing industry and then went on to Captain several scallop fishing vessels from the Sweeney Fisheries Fleet based in Yarmouth as well as the Digby Scallop Fleet later in his career. Sonny will be remembered as an intelligent and soft-hearted man who absolutely loved animals, and will be missed by Otis, his Golden Lab, best friend and loyal companion. In years past, he enjoyed snowmobiling and smelt fishing, but more recently he enjoyed woodworking in his shed, taking care of their property and keeping up on technology. Sonny will be forever missed by his adoring family and is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Beulah (Moulaison) Murphy, along with their son, Vaughn (Beverly) Murphy and their daughter, Rhonda (Devin) Boudreau, as well as by grandchildren, Luke (Emily) Murphy, Josh Boudreau and Connor Boudreau. Also surviving are brothers, Gary (Susan) LeBlanc, New Hampshire and Jack LeBlanc, Arizona, as well as by a sister, Joy (Dave) Topham, New Hampshire, along with many nieces and nephews. Aside from his mother and his adoptive parents, he was predeceased by a son, Darren Murphy (1975) and by a sister, Marie (late Maurice “Spike”) Feindel. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. A private graveside service will take place at a later date at Holy Family Cemetery, Amirault’s Hill. In keeping with his love for animals, memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth SPCA.
