Camellia “Cam”‘s Obituary
Gorrell, Camellia “Cam” Gordon – Oxford Junction. “No one could spread more love in a life time than Camellia“. We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Camellia Gordon Gorrell on April 13, 2020 at East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. The eldest of six children, Camellia was born on April 28 to the late Elmon “Nick” and Phyllis Whalen of Oxford Junction. Camellia was predeceased by her husband, Fred Gorrell. She leaves behind her sisters, Charlotte Purdy (Daniel), Tatamagouche; Heather Morse (Bruce), Berwick; Lindsay Diplock (David), Maine; brothers, Michael Whalen, Vancouver; Shaun Whalen (Sandra deceased), Oxford. She also leaves to mourn her niece, Kayla Diplock; and nephews, Nicholas and Michael Purdy; Aaron-David Morse; Lachlan and Tiarnan Whalen; great-nephews, Andrew Morse; Finnigan Farwell and Shea Bennett Whalen. She is also survived by stepchildren, Patricia ( Ken) Roberts; Alberta (Dennis) Dube; and John (Jen) Gorrell and their families. Camellia’s care and concern for others, compassion and willingness to lend a helping hand, and outstanding organizational skills, prepared her to work in a wide range of professions. She began her working career at a very young age, as a telephone operator for the former Maritime Tel and Tel, employee with the Bank of Nova Scotia and Royal Bank in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, administrative assistant at the Halifax Professional Centre, and child care provider for many children in a number of communities. Camellia was always ready for a party and made sure that everyone in attendance had as much fun as she did. She consistently reached out to others and enjoyed having a crowd of people around, especially if she could entertain and prepare a delicious meal for everyone. We Love You “Mee Mee”! The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at East Cumberland Lodge for their consistent care and compassion for Camellia and for family members during visitations. Your care and kindness will always be appreciated and remembered by Camellia’s (Cam’s ) family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Camellia may be made to East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Arrangements have been entrusted to MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, Oxford (902-447-2930).
