Obituary of Bruce Toshack Watson
Watson, Bruce Tosach
March 5th, 1948 – August 3rd, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we share the peaceful passing of Bruce Tosach Watson on Sunday August 2nd, 2020 after a brief battle with illness.
Bruce was a kind and gentle spirit who faced many adversities in his life with humour and an unwavering determination to live and move forward. His journey began on March 5th, 1948, welcomed into the world by parents Phyllis and Roy Watson and big brother David. Challenges would come early for Bruce when at the tender age of 17 months he contracted Meningitis. Bruce would win the battle for life but lose his hearing in the fight, quickly adapting to a new state of silence.
Bruce went on to attend the Ontario School for the Deaf in Belleville from age 5 to graduation, sharing a passion for sports while excelling in football and hockey. As a young adult he graduated as a lithographer and worked for a printing company in Toronto.
Bruce’s body and spirit would be tested again at the age of 21 when he struggled with a reoccurrence of meningitis, which nearly claimed his life. History would repeat itself seeing him persevere, defying the odds and going on to recover and reside with his parents in the years that followed. Bruce would later move into the Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf, his home for 15 years, where he made many friendships sharing his passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs, puzzles and sweets and enjoying visits from his loved ones. Bruce truly treasured the time he spent with the littlest members of the family who were all so drawn to his gentle, loving and funny nature. Bruce then transitioned to the Bob Rumball Deaf Home for Seniors in Barrie for what would be the final chapter of his story.
As his next adventure begins Bruce is met by his loving niece Kym with whom he had a special connection and will be lovingly missed and remembered by his brother David and his sister in law Ann, nephews Robb (Jaye) and Ryan and his great nieces and nephew, Marley, Mazie, Poppie and Truman.
Bruce will be laid to rest on September 12th at 10 am at Resthaven Cemetery in Scarborough. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Bruce’s memory to the Canadian Hearing Society of Kingston, Ontario.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Bruce
