Brendan Ben Stephen O’Brien 2020

Obituary
O’Brien, Brendan (Ben) Stephen (December 26, 1940 – October 24, 2020) – Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home in his 80th year, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by parents Larry and Madge O’Brien of Cape Broyle, brother Gene O’Brien and sister Eileen O’Brien. Ben leaves to mourn his loving wife of 52 years, Carmel (nee Gearin); daughters, Jocelyn Anderson (Mike) and Shelley Ann O’Brien; granddaughters, Sarah, Rebecca and Erin; brothers Kevin (Marlene, Holyrood), Cyril (Enid, St. John’s) and Jer (Dawson Creek, BC) and a wide circle of family and dear friends.
Dad was a quiet, soft spoken man (often called Gentle Ben by his RNC colleagues). He took pleasure in being around friends and family and loved to see people coming for a visit. While he could play so many different instruments, he would often shy away from a crowd but secretly loved being in the middle of it. He never complained about driving us to the rink at 5am for skating practice or driving us to the mall on a Friday night. We will never forget his epic Chinese food feasts or the wine he brewed.
A very special thank you to all the staff at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home. They treated us like family and made sure Dad never ran out of ice cream. They always had a smile, song or a story to share.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Friday, November 6, 2020 from 2pm-9pm at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. A funeral service will be held at Barrett’s Memorial Chapel on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11am. Interment to follow at Kilbride R.C. Cemetery (COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS APPLY). The service will be livestreamed for those who wish to attend virtually.
